We are actively seeking female & male volunteers to staff our
Domestic Violence helpline

  • You will be trained to provide support and guidance to anybody who has been
    affected by Domestic Violence.
  • You will need to be non-judgmental, reliable and must respect equal
    opportunities & diversity.

In return for your time, we will

  • Value your experience, talents, wants and needs.
  • Continue to provide ongoing training to develop your skills.
  • Supervise & support you.
  • Provide references for future career plans should your volunteering work
    take you into new employment.
  • Reimburse you for travel.

DVIRP ask for a minimum of 2 hours per week on the Domestic Violence helpline. The volunteer training lasts for 6 weeks. DVIRP recruit all year round. Management Committee Member

DVIRP benefits the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in relation to the health and safety of everyone who may be, or has been, affected by Domestic Violence.

This includes those who have been victims of Domestic Violence, children and the perpetrators of Domestic Violence. DVIRP also responds to service and survivor needs across agencies and promotes awareness to the public and employers about Domestic Violence through publicity and training.

What is a Management Committee Member expected to do?

  • To contribute actively to the board's role in providing firm strategic direction.
  • To safeguard the name, values and reputation of DVIRP.
  • To ensure effective and efficient administration of DVIRP.
  • To ensure the financial stability of DVIRP.
  • To ensure DVIRP deals equitably with its staff, employs staff in accordance with good practice, and in accordance with its polices and procedures.
  • To ensure that DVIRP complies with its governing document, laws and regulations, charity law, company law.

What skills are needed?

  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to DVIRP's aims and objectives.
  • Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
  • Strategic vision.
  • Good, independent judgement.
  • Ability to think creatively.
  • Willingness to voice opinions and debate issues.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of the team.
  • Clear understanding of Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
